Britney Spears’ Father Asks Court To Investigate Britney's Abuse Claims

What on earth is going on here?

Pop icon Britney Spears’ father Jamie Spears has asked that the abuse claims made during the singer’s 20-minute testimony last week be investigated, reports ABC News.

In a court filing, Jamie Spears' attorneys say that he is “saddened to hear of his daughter's difficulties and suffering" and "believes there must be an investigation into those claims".

For context: Britney Spears has been under a court-approved conservatorship since she experienced mental health problems in 2008. The conservatorship gives her father, Jamie Spears, the right to control her assets and make financial decisions on her behalf.

Britney detailed her suffering under the legal order in dramatic testimony in court last week, requesting that the longstanding conservatorship be removed. “I want to end this conservatorship without being evaluated,” Britney told Judge Brenda Penny. She described the conservatorship as “abusive”, adding that she’s been forced to take lithium and denied the right to have her contraceptive device removed. “I have a IUD inside of myself right now so I don’t get pregnant,” she said, indicating the shocking decision was approved by her father Jamie Spears.

She even said that her father deserved to be in jail, suggesting he had a sadistic nature. “The control he had over someone as powerful as me – he loved the control to hurt his own daughter 100,000%. He loved it.”

While Jamie Spears has been co-conservator of Britney’s estate since 2008, he apparently stepped down from controlling her personal affairs in September 2019.

Jamie Spears’ lawyers say he has no involvement in her “personal care of medical or reproductive issues”.
