After two weeks of cryptic Instagram posts and teasing, the pinks are back in full force. The group released their comeback music video on YouTube at 7PM AEST tonight.
Lisa's signature opening “BLACKPINK in your area” vocal hook paves the way for Jennie's opening verse to begin a build up of a powerful beat. Visual and sonic tributes to their fan-favourite singles, “BOOMBAYAH” and “DDU-DU DDU-DU”, are sprinkled throughout.
With an overarching translated message of “let’s move forward and fly high in any dark situation”, the timing of the song’s release feels particularly perfect right now, with lockdown restrictions being lifted around Australia, Korea and the rest of the world.
The group will spend the weekend promoting the song with a debut performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and a Q&A with fans tomorrow on Twitter’s Blueroom.
If “How You Like That” is any indication of what the rest of BLACKPINK's debut album holds, fans have plenty to be excited about. BLACKPINK's upcoming stadium-ready global era is long overdue – their meteoric rise is one we predict the world isn't ready for.
“How You Like That” is available to view on YouTube and out now on all streaming providers.
