Billie Eilish Talks Body Confidence, Consent & Being A Role Model On The Cover Of ‘British Vogue’

All while giving off serious 2020s Marilyn Monroe energy in a custom Gucci dorset and latex gloves.

Billie Eilish has broken a new Instagram record. Sharing brand new stunning photos from her shoot with British Vogue, the singer clocked one million likes in just six minutes.

It’s not hard to see why: Billie is a vision in a classic old school pin-up look, in which she wears a custom Gucci corset, latex gloves and suspenders, all while rocking her new blonde mop. The accompanying interview is break-the-internet-worthy too, as Billie gets real about topics ranging from abuses of power, body issues and misogyny. The interview, conducted by Laura Snapes (which you can read in full here), was conducted in the lead-up to her upcoming studio album Happier Than Ever, dropping on June 30.

Billie Eilish is known for her trademark baggy outfits, so her British Vogue look is a pretty unexpected move. She’s previously spoken about body-shaming and the media’s obsession with scrutinising women’s bodies and outfit choices.

Speaking to Snapes for British Vogue, Eilish comments on her choice to deviate from her usual oversized garments, while predicting possible responses.

“Suddenly you’re a hypocrite if you want to show your skin, and you’re easy and you’re a slut and you’re a whore. If I am, then I’m proud. Me and all the girls are hoes, and f**k it, y’know?” she says.

“Let’s turn it around and be empowered in that. Showing your body and showing your skin – or not – should not take any respect away from you.”

She comments that there may be questions or backlash about her choice of a corset, but that she quite frankly couldn’t give a fuck.

“‘If you’re about body positivity, why would you wear a corset? Why wouldn’t you show your actual body?’” she hypothesises of the public’s response.

“My thing is that I can do whatever I want… It’s all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, f**k it – if you feel like you look good, you look good.”

Don’t make me not a role model because you’re turned on by me,” she adds.

Billie also discusses power dynamics and abuse in the interview, opening up about her own experiences while commenting on system abuses of power that exist “everywhere”.

“I don’t know one girl or woman who hasn’t had a weird experience, or a really bad experience. And men, too – young boys are taken advantage of constantly,” she says.

The themes of abuse, fame and power are front and centre of her latest single, “Your Power”.
