Production On R-Patz’s ‘The Batman’ Has Officially Been Put On Hold 'Coz Of Coronavirus Concerns

Ah damn.

Sorry guys, you’ll probs have to wait even longer to see the smouldering R-Patz & his chin as Batman now.

The new The Batman film is the latest in a slew of movies to temporarily halt production because of the fears surrounding the spread of coronavirus. The film, starring beautiful Robert Pattinson as Batman, has been shooting in London, and was set to move to Liverpool (also in the UK) and continue shooting from there, but Warner Bros. has now made the call to temporarily stop shooting amid concerns about coronavirus.

It's been reported by Deadline that shooting will continue in two weeks’ time, which will be a relief to workers and creatives in Liverpool, who are likely banking on the cash that a production of this size injects into the local economy. According to the exclusive reporting by Deadline, no one from the cast or crew has been diagnosed with COVID-19 – the halt in production is just an extra safety precaution and, given Tom Hanks and Rita Hayworth’s recent coronavirus diagnosis while on location shooting Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Presley biopic in Australia, it makes sense.

There’s no word yet on if or how this delay will affect The Batman’s release date. Right now, the film is still scheduled for to drop on June 25th 2021, but a two-week hiatus – maybe longer – will likely affect timelines. We’ll let you know when we hear more.

While a few Warner Bros. films are still going ahead with filming – the Matrix 4 is currently shooting in Berlin and King Richard is set to continue production soon too, according to Deadline – other production houses including Universal, Disney, Sony and Paramount have all stopped their active feature shoots, citing safety concerns amid the global coronavirus outbreak. Here's hoping that all the cast and crew relying on these movies to go ahead for their income are properly protected, and productions can start again as soon as it is safe to do so.
