Model Kaia Gerber is a big fan of tattoos. She has a bunch of little pieces from a cherub face to the number 23 on her arm to a woman hugging herself that looks like a heart.
They’re intricate, fine and definitely etched by a professional.
However, the 18-year-old revealed in an interview with Glamour that the hardest part about self-isolation is fulfilling her itch for another tatt.
“I've been struggling because one of my favourite pastimes was going and getting tattoos, and nobody's been able to do that. So, in the meantime, I gave myself a stick and poke, which I do not recommend,” she said.
Let’s quickly repeat her words, “I do not recommend.”
Particularly as 1) it sounds painful, and 2) probably not the simplest of iso-tasks.
“I think I have a newfound appreciation for tattoo artists,” she continued. “It's not easy. I didn't get too ambitious. I gave myself a dot, just so I could be like, ‘All right, I got a tattoo this month, I'm cool’.”
Talking to the publication, she also revealed which of her many tattoos is her favourite.
“I have a Picasso painting on my arm,” she said. “It’s hard to pick a favourite! I also have the word ‘mom’ tattooed on me. I think I was so worried I was going to regret every tattoo I got, and they all represent such an important time in my life, even if the tattoo itself doesn’t have much importance. It’s like they’re all memories, so I don’t feel like I could ever see myself regretting them.”
Now she can stare down at her little dot and remember a quarantined world. Maybe that’s what that dot is: the entire earth?
