Uber Just Launched 'Quiet Mode', Which Means You No Longer Have To Wear Headphones To Avoid Small Talk
Is it rude and perhaps a little elitist to request complete silence from your driver via a tap on your phone? Maybe, but I know a lot of people will be relieved to discover that Uber’s Quiet Mode has just launched in Australia.
Quiet Mode does just what it says on the tin; it gives riders the ability to request a peaceful ride, without convos or (just as crucial) radio, through the app. No awkward explanations required. Simple!
Being antisocial will cost you, though. Uber’s Quiet Mode function is being rolled out as part of the pre-existing Uber Comfort range, which offers riders a series of different options that are intended to make your ride more relaxing, including Extended Wait Time and Temperature Control. Riding an Uber Comfort will set you back 1.2x the price of an UberX.
This rollout is no doubt part of Uber’s crusade to remain one of the top dogs in the ridesharing game in Australia. Uber’s been popular down under for a while now, but as competitors with strongholds in other markets (Ola, we're looking at you) are starting to gain traction and take essential dollars away from the original rideshare app – Uber will continue to look for new ways to stand out. God knows this Quiet Mode'll be a major draw card for us anti-social millenials and Gen-Zers.
What do you reckon, is the promise of blissful silence enough to make you part with more cash..?
