Some Fuckboys On An Island Are Here To Herald The End Times

I knew there would be a reckoning, I just didn’t think it would look like this.

I know what you’re thinking. Fuckboy Island? Isn't that basically Australia? Haha. I’m totally kidding, you guys. That was a joke.

Seriously though, if you’d thought a dolphin on a date with a scarecrow marked the zenith of fucked-up dating shows, we regret to inform you that there’s more. There’s always more, and that’s just what life is now.

It comes in the form of FBOY Island, a shiny new reality dating show with an awful name, draws its inspiration from Love Island and Bachelor in Paradise.

But what’s great about this show, which – we would stress – is called FBOY Island, is that half of the men are fuckboys, a species of man who have otherwise never existed on any dating show. (Ahem.) The other half are self-proclaimed “nice guys”, who arguably sound even worse.

“Women have been forced to tolerate the manipulative douchebaggery of FBOYS for way too long,” proclaims host Nikki Glaser standing on the terrace in the opening of the show’s official trailer. “And that’s why we’re here. Welcome: to FBOY Island.”

Right away, this brings up more questions than answers. Are they seriously going to keep saying FBOY? What does she mean “That’s why we’re here”. Is Nikki Glaser going to singlehandedly murder all the fuckboys?

“It’s up to these three ladies, and you at home, to figure out who the eff is who.”

Why? To what end?

We’re aware of the irony of you reading this on MTV Australia, given our American cousins pretty much invented this genre. (Megan McKenna forever). But guys, there are limits, ok? There have always been limits. And a show called FBOY Island may actually be it.

‘FBOY Island’ was released on the 29th of July in the US on HBO Max. We have not yet had word of an Australian release date.
