Who Is Performing At The 2020 ARIA Awards?

The 2020 ARIAs are almost here. Here’s what you need to know about every musician performing on the night.

It’s almost time to spend a night celebrating all things Aussie music at the annual Australian Recording Industry Association Awards – better known as the ARIAs.

Held at the Star Event Centre in Sydney, the 2020 ARIA Awards ceremony is set to be hosted by Delta Goodrem and features a solid line-up of performers.

So, who will we see perform at the awards ceremony? Locally the ceremony will feature performances from Aussie artists Lime Cordiale, Sampa The Great, Amy Shark, Sia and Tame Impala. ARIA Hall Of Fame Inductee Archie Roach will also perform on the night. Last week also saw two huge international names added to the setlist: Billie Eilish and Sam Smith

Eilish is set to perform her new single, “Therefore I Am”, from her hometown of LA, while Smith will be sharing a “very special performance” all the way from Abbey Road Studios in London.

“Australia has always held such a special place in my heart, and I am so honoured to be a part of this year’s ARIA Awards! I’ll be crossing live from London with a very special performance for you all,” Smith said in a press release.

Of Sam Smith's performance ARIA Chief Executive Dan Rosen said, “It is a great honour to be able to welcome one of the world’s biggest stars Sam Smith to this year’s ARIA Awards”.

Rosen continued: “While the COVID pandemic means that our international guests cannot be physically with us, we are excited to take the ARIAs to the world’s stages. And what a thrill to have an ARIA performance from the world’s most famous studio Abbey Road.”

Naturally, Rosen was stoked at landing a virtual performance from Billie Eilish for Aussie music's night of nights, too. "Australian music fans have taken her into our hearts, and last year Billie had the highest selling album in Australia with her massive hit When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?"

"She is truly one of the biggest artists in the world right now, and we can't wait to see her perform her new song for all her Australian fans on the ARIA stage," Rosen said.

The 2020 ARIA Awards will follow social distancing restrictions, taping without its usual live audience, so it'll be interesting to see how the event shapes up.

And Who’s Nominated For An ARIA Award?

As always, the ‘Song of the Year’ category is one of the ARIAs most anticipated awards from the night. Set to nab the top spot includes the following nominations: "Robbery" by Lime Cordiale, “Live in Life” by The Rubens, “Charlie” by Mallrat, "Teeth" by 5 Seconds Of Summer, "Rushing Back" feat. Vera Blue by Flume, "Exit Sign" by Hilltop Hoods Feat. Illy & Ecca Vandal, "Painkiller" by Ruel, "This City" by Sam Fischer, "Heavy Hearted" by The Jungle Giants, and "Never Seen the Rain" by Tones and I. Of course, last year's ‘Song of the Year’ award went to Guy Sebastian for "Choir".
