Gladys Berejiklian Tells NSW Residents To Wear Face Masks As State Records 10 New COVID Cases Overnight

“I don’t want to understate how serious the current outbreak is.”

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian gave a press conference this morning for an update of the evolving COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney. The premier announced that NSW recorded a further 10 cases of coronavirus, bringing the total case number in NSW up to 28.

Gladys said all residents of Greater Sydney should be on high alert, adding: "I don't want to understate how serious the current outbreak is." She also stressed that Sydneysiders should not be getting on public transport, going to the supermarket or attending places of worship without wearing a face mask. "Nobody should be getting on public transport without a mask ... It would just be crazy if people are undertaking those activities without wearing a mask." (The video below gives you some pointers on how to make your own.)

The premier added that those in Sydney's Northern Beaches should stay home so the state can "get on top of this" in the next couple of days. "I stress to everybody in and around Avalon and the Northern Beaches that for the next three days you shouldn't leave your home unless absolutely necessary," she said.

Going forward, the NSW government will be giving daily public updates at 11am. Gladys also warned she can't "rule out" the possibility of enforcing strict lockdown rules for residents of the Northern Beaches in the future. For now, we'll have to wait and see.

As always, please remember to get tested if you have any symptoms of COVID-19.
