Iggy Azalea Has Weighed In On Britney Spears For Some Reason
Most of us are still reeling from the moment Britney Spears addressed LA Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny in her most public statement to date. After the pop icon’s shocking testimony about her conservatorship went public, the internet promptly went into a frenzy, with Britney Spears was the most Googled celebrity on the day of her address.
Many celebrities have chimed in to offer Britney Spears their support, although not all have been received well (we’re looking at you, Justin Timberlake). Britney supporters have been calling on more celebrities to speak up, particularly those who have collaborated with Brit in the past.
One Britney fan tweeted a list of celebrities who had collaborated with the pop singer but haven’t used their enormous platforms to show her support this week.
Iggy Azalea has now responded on Twitter, citing a non-disclosure agreement she signed, while claiming she’d supported Britney behind the scenes. She also reminded the internet that back in 2015, she had spoken about some of the things she’d witnessed during their collab, including Britney’s team inspecting Iggy’s house prior to their working together.
“Britney has said in her own words, she’s embarrassed to even share this with the world,” she wrote.
“If she needed me to speak on her behalf, That message has been delivered to her.”
She then added, “I’ve done what I’m supposed to do, I’ve reached out.”
“I’m not supposed to be mindlessly telling you all whatever was happening because half of these people are just here for entertainment not to help.”
Iggy and Britney teamed up in 2015 for “Pretty Girls”, a song that, despite having two heavy hitters on it, did pretty poorly commercially. It peaked at 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, leaving the charts after only eight weeks.
At the time, Iggy Azalea tweeted that the song flopped because of restrictions from Britney’s camp about promoting the song. In a since deleted Tweet, she wrote that “its difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. unfortunately im just featured.” In 2016, Azalea appeared on Watch What Happens Live, telling Andy Cohen that before they worked together, people from Britney’s team performed an inspection on her house.
“They came and checked my place to make sure I wasn’t trying to stash anything weird and, like, get it to her or something, to make sure I wasn’t a bad influence,” she said.
“I passed the test,” she added.
Azalea reminded people that she’d spoken up about those things in 2015, copping some flack from Britney’s fans in doing so.
“I said her team wouldn’t let her do promo and that they went through my house etc and y’all said I was a hater,” she wrote.
