Sacha Baron Cohen is back for another 'Borat' – featuring 2020 icons Donald Trump and COVID-19.
The first trailer for Borat 2 has been released, and it looks, to put it in the words of our fave Kazakhstani journalist, very nice.
The new flick is reported to have the very short title (not) of Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan and set to be released this October (yes, that’s this month!).
According to Deadline, the sequel was the first movie made during the COVID-19 shutdown in the US, and was shot cheaply and efficiently to be ready before the US presidential election. The film’s creator and star Sacha Baron Cohen was spotted filming a scene in LA back in August.
Two months before, in June, he was filmed crashing a far-right rally, dressed as a hillbilly and leading a crowd in a singalong. All signs pointed to it being a scene for the upcoming flick.
The coronavirus pandemic and the relationship between US President Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein is also thought to be a plotline, reports The Film Stage. In July, Trump’s former lawyer and former NYC mayor Rudy Guiliani said he called the cops on Cohen when the comedian tried to prank him into a spoof interview.
There’s sure to be heaps more controversial stuff: Sources told Deadline Cohen “had to wear a bulletproof vest on two different shooting days and on many days, there were risky and dangerous scenarios in shooting.”
The original 2006 film took home USD $262 million worldwide.
Borat 2 is set to be released worldwide October 23 on Amazon Prime. Catch its first trailer here:
