Morphe Majorly Discounts All Jeffree Star Cosmetics Products As It Cuts Ties With The Controversial YouTuber
A week after Morphe announced it was 'cutting commercial ties' with Jeffree Star, the makeup brand has discounted all Jeffree Star Cosmetics products on its site, as well as items from its Morphe X Jeffree Star collab. This is no small discount, either. To give you an idea: the Jeffree Star Brush collection, valued at $127 and now sold out, was going for just $37. The Jeffree Star Eye Brush collection, said to be worth $116? It’s now $32.
To be fair, Morphe does have sales a few times a year so it could very well be coincidental, but given all the controversy surrounding Jeffree Star of late, not to mention the fact Morphe explicitly announced it was “ceasing activity” with the beauty YouTuber, we’re hedging our bets that the sale is 100% on purpose.
Last Friday, Morphe announced on Twitter it was dropping Jeffree Star Cosmetic and any affiliated products, writing: “We expect this to conclude within the coming weeks. As we look to the future, we will continue to share updates on what lies ahead for the Morphe brand."
Soon after, Jeffree Star Cosmetics replied in a statement on Instagram: “We are shocked and extremely saddened by the decision of our former retail partner Morphe Brushes on parting ways with our brand and Jeffree."
Many saw this coming after Morphe pulled Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson’s collaboration, Shane X Jeffree Conspiracy palettes, from its site after videos of Shane being racist, making jokes about paedophilia and pretending to masturbate to a poster of a then 11-year-old Willow Smith resurfaced. A recap of everything that went down related to Shane Dawson is here.
Jeffree, for his part, has made racist statements in the past. He's also been accused of using anti-Semitic and xenophobic slurs and has been questioned around his apparently close friendship with an alleged abuser, Dahvie Vanity. Couple all that with fellow beauty YouTuber Tati Westbrook's new video, in which she claimed Jeffree and Shane had manipulated her into making her explosive 2019 "Bye Sister" video, which attacked James Charles; and there's a lot of hot water surrounding Jeffree right now.
Jeffree has yet to directly comment on any of this. He's been keeping a low profile – appearing only on Blac Chyna’s Instagram and on Cole Carrigan’s Instagram story. Many fans and commentators assume that this YouTuber war is one of the first that's playing out almost entirely behind the scenes, and with lawyers. Until the next update...
