Pressing Questions With Kath Ebbs

We accost the model and influencer with a medley of life's most pressing questions.

Is it time that we change what it means to be confident? Kathleen Ebbs thinks so. The 23-year-old model and influencer – not to mention PT and founder of wellness website Call Me Kath – reckons that working out and throwing herself into the discomfort of acting have done wonders for her self-confidence. “It teaches you to let go of inhibitions and feel uncomfortable until you feel comfortable,” she said of acting in an interview with Grazia Magazine.

After hearing of Kath, we only wanted to hear more. What did she learn from the pandemic? Is she a morning person? How did she feel about her hair? We had a feeling that MTV Australia’s Pressing Questions series – a no-frills interview where we do away with robotic conversational frames and get to know our favourite people beyond the PR spiel – would lead us to the answers.

What is the meaning of life?

That life has no meaning. You choose.

Something COVID taught you

People are all we’ve got. But also, choose them wisely. I believe we must brave the fear of being alone in order to experience true connection and companionship. I've made this mistake one too many times. Love is a choice, not a feeling.

Last movie you watched

Stand By Me. It’s one of my favourites.

Best advice you’ve received

Don’t battle people. We have to let others be who they are. It’s on you whether you want to hang around or not.

Someone you really admire

Jamie Oliver. I remember watching videos when I was younger of him cooking and thinking, I want to find something I’m as passionate about one day. Watching him cook is watching true flow.

How do you feel about your hair?

Love it. As Phoebe Waller-Bridge once wrote, “Hair. Is. Everything.”

Describe yourself in three words

Insecure. Self-assured. Hopeful.

One person or thing you think is underrated

I think loss is underrated. Don’t get me wrong: pain sucks; grief sucks. But if we choose not to run from it, it can be our biggest transformer. (Five years ago I would’ve said crocs, but everyone seems to have figured that one out.)

Would you rather travel 100 years to the past or the future?

Neither.

Nature or nurture

Hmm, a combination. But maybe nurture because my belief is we carry our families past lives, culture and traumas in our bones. So I guess that's still nurture being passed down? So maybe I just believe in nurture, but that nurture could have been something not from this lifetime, which makes it feel like nature.

What do you doubt most?

Myself. And whether you can really truly trust people.

Daily ritual you couldn't live without

Coffee.

Something you're passionate about

People. I love them. I hate them. I need them. I’m obsessed with them.

How are you at 8am?

I used to be such a morning person. Like one of those freak 5am people. But in the past 2 years my alarm clock keeps getting later and later and later. I think I work best in the morning but I also hate getting up at the moment. So at the moment, who knows.
