It’s the question you've no doubt been asking yourself for weeks. Did Elon Musk and Grimes really name their baby X AE A-XII Musk? Like officially? Like, 'that’ll be the name on his passport' officially? Or was it all just one big PR stunt put on for who knows why?
Well, now you can finally be put out of your misery 'coz the sneaky guys over at TMZ went ahead and got their mitts on the kid's actual birth certificate. The document confirmed that, yep, the kid's actual name is X AE A-XII Musk. It was... for real.
If you remember though, back at the start of May when Musk first tweeted out the baby’s name, it was originally X Æ A-12 Musk. But because California law states that names can only include the 26 letters of the alphabet – surprisingly, apostrophes and dashes are cool though – the couple had to change the name to be symbol-free.
To further add to the drama, there’s also the fact Musk and Grimes couldn’t agree on how to pronounce the name. It all started when Musk took to Twitter to call out his partner by correcting her on the origins of it.
Then, Musk jumped on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast and confirmed that the name is pronounced: "X Ash Archangel Twelve."
"First of all, my partner's the one that actually mostly came up with the name," he said. "It's just 'X,' the letter 'X,' and the 'Æ' is pronounced 'ash' and then 'A-12' is my contribution. Archangel 12, the precursor to the SR-71, coolest plane ever."
Our brains... make it stop. But oh wait, there's more. Then Grimes, while responding to a fan on Instagram, said it was actually pronounced: "X A.I".
We wonder what the little dude will make of all this when he's older...
