Netflix Is Officially Committing To Season 6 Of 'The Crown' So Expect All That ‘00s Royals Drama

The creator changed his mind.

Some good news for your Friday: The Crown creator Peter Morgan has announced this week that he’s changed his mind about ending the Netflix series after the fifth season and will, in fact, be bringing it back for a sixth, reports Deadline.

“As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” Morgan told the publication. “To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

The extra season will bring the royal drama up to the early '00s, stopping well before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.

Three seasons of the show have already aired, while the fourth, covering Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s story and filmed just before the pandemic hit, has yet to air.

The fifth and sixth season, set to cover the 1990s and early 2000s, are still to be filmed. It’s not known how these last seasons will split the drama, which includes the affairs of both Prince Charles and Diana; the divorce of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson; the tragic death of Diana in 1997; and (possibly) the 2002 deaths of Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother, seven weeks apart.

Season four to six will star Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Emma Corrin as Princess Diana.
