Pressing Questions With Roy Bing

We accost musician Roy Bing with a medley of life’s most pressing questions.

What even is a viral song these days? Is it one that’s made for TikTok? One with an unintentionally hilarious moment that can’t be unheard? Is it both? Is it neither?

Whatever it is, Roy Bing captured that lightning in a bottle when he created “Rabs”. Fusing his club-ready production with the electrifying commentary from the GOAT, Ray “Rabs” Warren, Roy Bing has tapped into two of the Australian public’s biggest loves: sport and music. Hey, maybe the government will pay attention to music now? Who knows!

“Rabs” recreates the magic of ODD MOB’s “Is It A Banger?” or Mashd N Kutcher’s “Get On The Beers” by taking some inconsequential moments in media and turning into an absolute thumper. Coupled with its outstanding music video, Roy Bing’s offering leaves an impression.

MTV Australia is ready to meet the man behind it all. Roy Bing takes on our pressing questions, and he’s dishing on all things body hair, vaccine rollouts and Britney Spears.

Something COVID taught you
What a pangolin is.

Best advice you’ve received
“You should watch Vanilla Sky”

and also “life begins where your comfort zone ends” – that one hits different

Someone you really admire

Other than my mum, I'd say Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. That's my guy right there. He always keeps it 100, gives very little fucks, and just wants to make music, do good things and help people.

Also shoutout to Paddy Mills who is a pure shooter/baller/leader.

How do you feel about your hair?

Which hair we talking? Head hair, leg hair, arm hair, chest hair, foot hair?

I randomly am pretty hairy. Actually my whole family is weirdly hairy – dunno why. I think I have good feels about it.

Describe yourself in three words

We are Groot

One person or thing you think is underrated

I gotta say the legend Ray 'Rabs' Warren. A true unsung hero. There's been so many iconic sporting moments he's been a part of, but he's never taken the spotlight. I reckon we're all gonna be pretty devo when he's not commentating anymore.

Would you rather travel 100 years to the past or the future?

The past! I could finally be the smartest person in the room. Although, now I think about it, I'd have absolutely no idea how to impress people with any nek-level-digital-skillz 'cause I don't know anything about technology or building computers. Damn.

Or I'd just go full Back To The Future/Biff Tannen mode from and place some bets.

Nature or nurture?

To quote Medicinenet, “In the context of the nature vs. nurture debate, “nature” refers to biological/genetic predispositions’ impact on human traits, and "nurture" describes the influence of learning and other influences from one’s environment. The debate over whether the strengths and weaknesses of people are the result of nature or nurture has, and somewhat continues to rage on between scholars and lay people alike.”

In summary, the end.

What do you doubt most?

1. Myself

2. The vaccine rollout (lol but not lol)

Daily ritual you couldn't live without

This could be fake news, but I've started taking 1 x berocca, 1x armaforce, 1x multi-vitamin every morning because I was always getting sick. And so far I haven't got sick, so I've been preaching hard to everyone I know*.

*Please consult your local GP before taking health advice from an absolute rando on the net.

How are you at 8am?

Probably trying to unmangle my half-asleep face so my iPhone recognises it and unlocks. Then I'm chowing down on that aforementioned armaforce.

Something you're passionate about

I'm pretty passionate about this remix:

And while we're on the topic, I'm passionate about resolving the fuckery surrounding the Britney Spears situation.

Tell us about your music in a sentence

I found this on Reddit the other day about my song “Rabs” which I thought was quality:
