The first trailer for The Batman featuring Robert Pattinson dropped over the weekend, and the only thing better than watching the actual clip itself is fans’ reactions to it. The twist that Pattinson stars as an emo-esque Batman – eyeliner, fringe and all – means there’s a lot to dissect.
But before we get into said reactions, some details on the upcoming film: it’s directed by Matt Reeves; also stars Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon; and is set to be released sometime late next year. Thankfully we didn't have to wait that long for this teaser content.
The first-ever trailer for The Batman, soundtracked to Nirvana’s "Something in the Way", shows R-Patz swapping the 'confident playboy' vibe Christian Bale and Ben Affleck brought to the character in favour of his signature moody ambience. Think Good Charlotte circa 1998 or My Chemical Romance in their Black Parade heydeys. It's a vibe.
Course, Twitter had a ton of thoughts, with users weighing in on R-Patz's emo look, his chaotic energy and career trajectory... but mostly just his emo look.
