We can’t imagine what’s been worse for Joey King: having to work with ex Jacob Elordi on two sequels for Netflix’s rom-com The Kissing Booth after the pair were broken up OR now, nearly two years after the breakup, getting continuously asked about him as she does press interviews for The Kissing Booth 2. Either way, it’s… not ideal.
The latest ‘what’s it like working with your ex?’ line of questioning took place on radio show The Howard Stern Show this week, and like the little legend she seems to be, Joey, 21, took it on the chin, sharing even more deets about her year-long relo with Jacob, 23, and how she felt post-breakup.
“I think it’s a good thing we dated in the first place,” she said. “I learned the most I’ve ever learned in my life from him.”
When she was then asked if she’d ever date another actor again, she quickly replied: “No, I couldn’t.” “I think that it’s awesome to date someone in your field, who gets it, but doing the same exact thing as somebody is tough. It’s really tough.”
Previously, Joey admitted to it being “not easy” to work with her ex. “No one’s thinking to themselves, ‘That was easy’, because it wasn’t," she said in this month’s US Cosmopolitan. “I’m sure people will analyse every movement and every detail. And you know what? Let them. But at the end of the day, I was just thrilled to be Elle Evans again.”
Back in April, she said similar on podcast Mood with Lauren Elizabeth: "I'm a fan with how [the original movie] resonated with the world, it resonated with me. So going back and doing that and making the sacrifice of what, obviously, everyone is thinking about – outwardly addressing, but what I'm kind of on the sly addressing, making those sacrifices was totally worth it."
These days, Joey is said to be dating producer Steven Piet (not Taylor Zakhar Perez as we thought, which makes sense now knowing her 'no actor' dating rule), while Jacob is rumoured to be smitten with his Europhia co-star Zendaya.
