The Internet Slams Celebrity 'Imagine' Video For Being Tone-Deaf & Yeah Fair Enough

...

In these trying times, everyone is doing their best to try and help out.

But despite their best intentions, a celebrity-packed video featuring a rendition of John Lennon's classic song 'Imagine' has not been received well by the public.

Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot rallied her famous friends (and their singing voices) in an effort to offer some reprieve from the COVID-19 crisis gripping the world. But it, well it kinda did the opposite.

The sentiments from the online community were loud and clear, branding the message "cringey" and "tone-deaf" coming from the 1%-ers of this world.

As the likes of Natalie Portman, Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, Kristen Wiig, Zoe Kravitz and more sung their little hearts out, the internet collectively rolled their eyes.

Far be it for us to lambast these celebrities for trying to do something to help out, but there's no denying it is uncomfortable viewing.

While many of the negative feedback has pointedly demanded these famous people donate their money rather than their singing voices, we can't rule out the fact they haven't. Not everyone needs to promote or publicise any donations they may or may not have made. HOWEVER, let this be a lesson for us all to check our privilege, and do what we can to encourage actionable help to those less fortunate. There are plenty of people out there who need a lot more than a viral video to help them through these unprecedented times.

So in this instance it may have missed the mark but let's try and be a little kinder to each other. It's a weird new world out there and everyone is figuring out how best to use their voice. Just maybe, 'Imagine' isn't the right song for now.
