WATCH: Hailee Steinfeld Opens Up About The Meaning Behind That ‘Time Zone’ Lyric In New Interview
We all might be stuck in isolation and coming to terms with this overwhelming new normal, but at least we still have music to keep us sane.
Today one of our favourite young pop singers, Hailee Steinfeld, dropped the video for her single ‘I Love You’s’ and honestly it was worth getting out of bed and brushing our hair for.
We caught up with the 23-year-old for a little bit of ‘Recess’ on MTV Australia’s Instagram Live and she spilled some tea on the meaning behind the song.
When a fan asked what the Pitch Perfect star what her favourite lyric from ‘I Love You’s’ is, she deliberated for a minute before deciding on the lyric that has gotten plenty of people talking.
“Probably, ‘I blamed it on the time zones,’ or ‘I blamed it on my eyes closed’ because I think when we get into certain situations we sort of make excuses or we look to whatever we can to sort of take the blame away from ourselves when we know what’s right and we know what’s wrong,” she said.
It’s that head versus heart thing, where your mind is telling you one thing and your heart is telling you another.”
When MTV host Lisa Hamilton jumped in and said, “dating someone who lives in another timezone is super shitty,” Hailee responded with, “It’s tough for sure!”
Watch it go down below:
While neither parties have confirmed, it has been widely speculated that Hailee’s new music is all about her romance with former One Direction band member, Niall Horan.
The “time zone” lyric definitely makes a lot of sense considering Niall is based in London and Hailee is in the states.
Even though things didn’t work out between the two, it looks like Hailee is channelling it into some A+ music.
