Dua Lipa’s 'Future Nostalgia' Grammys medley was a camp tribute to the club

The six-time 2021 Grammy nominee, Dua Lipa, made the case for her 2020 record ‘Future Nostalgia’ in a massive reworked medley of its two biggest singles.

Dua Lipa was guaranteed a good 2021 Grammy Awards before the night even began. Six nominations crowned a bumper year for the Albanian-English pop star, spurling out of her debut album Future Nostalgia; a disco pop behemoth for a year without dancing. The biggest gong the record is up for is Album of the Year, and Lipa made a case for its win with a medley of two of its biggest hits: "Don't Stop Now" and "Levitating".

Since Lipa has been omnipresent since the record's release in March, she performed two new versions of the tunes in a club-fantasia set. "Levitating" was heard in a kind of druggy-slow, classy re-do, with Da Baby appearing to perform his verse from a remix of the track. Lipa stood against a giant pink moon, featured on the covers of Future Nostalgia's many versions. While surrounded by meticulously choreographed dancers, Lipa's own slight versions of the moves were incredibly endearing.

The medley was an unadulterated tribute to the club; its camp extravagance, imperfect dancing and baldfaced joy. It was also a mere preview of what Lipa's live shows will look like come (a hopefully COVID Safe) 2022.
