Katy Perry Explains Why It Took So Long For Her & Taylor Swift To Make Up
A year after publicly reconciling with Taylor Swift, Katy Perry has explained why it took so long for the feud to end.
Appearing on radio show The Howard Stern Show last week, Katy said: “Gossip and lies, they take the elevator. But the truth takes the stairs, and it just takes time.” On a side note: clearly, baby brain hasn’t got to her – brilliant metaphor.
“Time will tell my story,” the 35-year-old continued, somewhat ominously. “What I'm so grateful for is that we did get to make up and we made up publicly, and we got to be an example of redemption for young girls."
She finished: “It's hard for young girls, growing up [with] cliques and high school and pettiness and all that stuff, so now we're super friendly and I've always wanted the best for her and we can talk about the best we want for each other.”
The backstory here, if you didn’t know, is that Katy and Taylor first began their feud in 2014 when Taylor claimed Katy had tried to ruin her tour. There was also some crossover on the dating front, with both pop stars being linked to John Mayer. Fans then thought TSwift’s "Bad Blood" was written about Katy. Katy then named a perfume of hers ‘Mad Love’ (you know, from the lyric in "Bad Blood", 'it used to be mad love'). Anyway, it's a long story, and there's a full debrief here.) Subtle digs were thrown around for a few subsequent years until it all came to an abrupt halt in the symbolic form of… a plate of cookies. Seriously.
Katy then made a cameo in Taylor’s "You Need to Calm Down" music video, with the two of them dressed up as fast food. Cue: cute Instagram photo. All's well that ends well, hey?
Katy, who's pregnant with a baby girl with fiancé Orlando Bloom, recently announced her due date is in August.
