Wild News: Drama Series Of ‘Tiger King’ Starring Nicolas Cage Picked Up By Amazon

He'll take on the role of Joe Exotic.

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, you’ll be pleased to know this Tiger King news: Amazon has reportedly picked up a yet-to-be-filmed drama which explores the life of Joe Exotic, with Nicolas Cage starring as the Tiger King himself, according to Variety. It’ll be the first time Oscar-winning Cage has had a regular TV role.

Yep, the scripted series talked about back in May has finally landed a producer in Amazon Studios. The project will be in collaboration with CBS Television Studios and Imagine Television.

The show is based on an article about the Tiger King drama, “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild” by Leif Reigstad, published in Texas Monthly, that tells the story of how Oklahoma-based exotic zookeeper Joe Shreibvogel became the character we all know as Joe Exotic.

Like with Tiger King, the series will follow how Joe Exotic became who he is, his fight to keep his park and his eventual downfall.

At this stage, the show’s still just a project and hasn’t yet been picked up for a whole series. And apparently competition is tough, as it won’t be the only scripted series of Tiger King on the block. Last month, another version was announced, with Kate McKinnon playing Carole Baskin and involvement from NBC, Peacock and USA Network.
