It's fair to say that Britney Spears is done staying silent on her long-standing conservatorship. Worried fans have long been advocating for Britney’s right to speak openly about her experiences, particularly as the pop singer often took to Instagram to insist she was “fine” or even “the happiest [she’s] ever been”.
But last month the #FreeBritney movement reached a flashpoint, as Britney addressed an open court to openly speak about her experience under the order.
Soon after, she posted to social media apologising to her fans for pretending she was OK and thanking them for giving her the courage to speak up.
Britney’s newfound frankness is continuing, as Britney took to Instagram today to call out her family members, specifically her father Jamie and her sister Jamie Lynn, for the horrific things she’s allegedly been experiencing.
She posted a tile reading: “Take me as I am, or kiss my ass, eat shit and step on legos.” More of this, please Britney.
“For those of you who choose to criticize my dancing videos… look I'm not gonna be performing on any stages anytime soon with my dad handling what I wear, say, do, or think,” she wrote as a caption.
“And no I'm not gonna put on heavy makeup and try try try on stage again and not be able to do the real deal with remixes of my songs for years and begging to put my new music in my show for MY fans ... so I quit !!!!”
Britney goes on to condemn her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, for using Britney’s platform. Jamie Lynn has long been an enemy of the #FreeBritney movement, particularly as it came out that despite Jamie’s supposed public support, she had been a trustee of Brit’s estate since 2018.
“I don't like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes !!!!! My so-called support system hurt me deeply,” she added.
Speaking about the fiery responses to the Framing Britney Spears documentary, she wrote, “I didn't like the way the documentaries bring up humiliating moments from the past ... I'm way past all that and have been for a long time !!!!”
She ended the rant by telling anyone who doesn’t like that she loves fairy tales, “go fuck yourself” and anyone who doesn’t like her Instagram dancing videos to “go read a fucking book”.
Yup, it’s that staunch Britney energy we've all been waiting for.
This week, Britney had a small but promising win in her case: after her manager and court-appointed lawyer resigned, she was granted the right to choose her own counsel. Hopefully more good news is on its way.
