G Flip Wins Best Australian Act At The MTV EMAs

The singer and drummer is “stoked” with the win.

It feels like just yesterday since G Flip burst onto the Aussie music scene with her debut album, About Us. Since then, she's made some serious waves abroad, too. The singer, songwriter, producer and drummer, Georgia Flipo, just took home the award for the Best Australian Act at the MTV EMAs 2020, beating out other homegrown names including Baker Boy, The Kid LAROI, Tones & I and Hayden James.

"What's up, crazy cats," she said in her virtual acceptance speech. "It's G Flip here and I just found out that I won EMA's Best Australian Act, which is so cool and I'm so stoked so thank you to anyone that voted – I really appreciate it. And yeah, I'm going to celebrate in the sun and just chill out. So, thanks to everyone and cheers MTV!"

Last month, G Flip dropped her latest single, "You & I". Packed with soaring synths and an anthemic chorus, the single is her first official release since her track, "Hyperfine".

Of "You & I", G Flip said: "It's about being able to look at someone and the whole world just becomes background noise to your epic love story and it feels like it's only you and that other person standing on the planet."

She continued: "It's a highlight reel of beautiful moments to me. It's extremely bittersweet as I wrote this song when I was crazy in love and I'm currently healing from a break up. It was written in a couple of hours while I was in London with a producer named Bastian… and it's my mum's favourite song."
