Well, well, well. After a 17-day streak of no new cases of COVID-19 in our once troubled state, our favourite VIC premier is hinting that the state's face mask restrictions could be eased.
"I think the area we will move first will be when people are out on their own, well away from others," Premier Dan Andrews said, as reported by The Age. "It'll always be a situation where you carry the mask and if for some unexpected reason you would come into contact with people, then you would wear that mask. I think that's probably the first change," he said, flagging his signature 'easy does it' approach.
But after many months of making face masks my 'new normal', I'm not sure I'm ready to bear my naked face to the world once again. I mean, can we stop for a second to appreciate the perks of wearing a face mask? The heightened anonymity! The irrelevance of makeup! Flinging your mask off when you get home like a (relatively unknown) superhero! And above all: the mystique (see: Portrait of a Lady on Fire).Face masks have become my emotional safety blanket – just as much as my physical one, and I'm not quite ready to give it up.
What do you reckon, are you ready to show your face to the world once more?
