Mark Zuckerberg Commits To Donating 99% Of His Facebook Stock Valued At $45 Billion

That's a lot of moola...

In news that will restore your faith in big corporations today, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan announced that they would give 99 per cent of their Facebook shares to charity. For all of us who don’t deal with numbers that well, that’s a whopping $45 billion worth y’all.

In probably the cutest Facebook post of all time, the tech billionaire wrote that the pair donated their shares as a result of the birth of their baby daughter Max.

In the post—which is an open letter to their new bby gurl—Zuckerberg wrote that welcoming his little bundle of joy into the world made him “think about all of the things that should be improved in the world for her whole generation.” Cue the awwwwws.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative aims to improve education, cure disease, and to connect people around the world.

This isn’t the only time that Zuckerberg has dabbled in philanthropy. Earlier this week, he announced that he was part of the Breakthrough Energy Coalition, a group that promotes clean energy, and he is also part of the Giving Pledge, an initiative that tries to get wealthy individuals to give away more than half of their earnings to charity.

All we have to say is good on ‘ya Mark!

A few weeks before Max’s birth, Priscilla and Mark took a morning to reflect and record their hopes for their daughter and all children of her generation.
