Shawn Mendes Toasts To His "Summer Of Love" At The 2021 MTV VMAs

Summer may be over in the US, but it's just around the corner down under.

By this stage, Shawn Mendes is basically MTV VMAs royalty. That steamy 2019 performance of “Señorita” with Camila Cabello continues to live rent-free in our heads, and it’s safe to say that expectations were high for his appearance at this year’s awards to perform his latest single “Summer of Love” with Puerto Rican singer/producer Tainy.

Scheduled directly in the wake of girlfriend Camila Cabello’s own scintillating performance of “Don’t Go Yet”, it didn’t take long for Mendes to steal the spotlight away from his partner, with his unflappable stage presence making this performance one for the books.

Bathed in a soft pink and orange glow, the Canadian heart-throb earned a typically raucous response as he strutted his stuff onstage, looking all the bit the superstar as he flexed his vocal range to sensational effect. As Tainy kept things cool on the keyboards, Mendes made his way through to the front of the crowd, engaging with fans (remember when performers could do that?) and taking the track to exciting new heights with a killer final vocal run.

Summer might be over in the US, but it’s just around the corner for us here down under, and we can’t wait for this one to soundtrack all the action.
