Kristen Stewart Has Been Cast As Princess Diana In A Dramatic New Film & The Internet Has Lots Of Thoughts

She's the queen of rebellion.

In news I was not expecting today; it's been announced that Kristen Stewart will play Princess Diana in Spencer, a drama directed by Pablo Larrain that’ll focus on Di’s rebellion against the monarchy, reports Deadline.

Frankly, I'm thrilled. If there’s anyone that can bring the amount of angst to the role that’ll most certainly be needed, it’s Stewart. Literally, I couldn’t think of an actress with more anti-establishment vibes; I can just picture the scowls and eyerolls now.

Another reason why Stewart makes an interesting choice is the fact that the actress has also dealt with hounding paparazzi. If you remember, it was actually paps that led to one of her breakups with fellow Twilight-er Robert Pattinson. They’d snapped her kissing married director, Rupert Sanders. Wild times.

Not everyone agrees with me, though... Twitter exploded when the news broke, with many questioning the director's decision to put Stewart in the shoes of one of the world's most iconic and beloved figures.

The movie’s plot line will centre on the end of Di’s marriage to Prince Charles and her decision to shrug the possibility of becoming queen. It’ll be set across three days in the early '90s during which she spent one of her last Chrissie holidays with the House of Windsor fam; exploring what led to that fateful decision and exactly how it all went down. We're expecting heaps of salty digs, clever double entendres and many cute Corgis.

Production is expected to begin in early 2021, which could be a little ambitious given the coronavirus pandemic, but we'll see.
