Pressing Questions With Alice Griffin
In this, our final week of publishing, the time has come for MTV Australia contributors to get a taste of their own medicine. In a bizarre and unnecessary form of self-flagellation, we’ve decided that we too must answer the ridiculous questions that we so smugly put to others in our column known as Pressing Questions. Here, mtv.com.au’s editor, Alice Griffin, takes a swing.
What is the meaning of life?
I think it’s family? Lame but I genuinely like hanging out with my parents more than most other people.
Something COVID taught you?
Don’t allow your boyfriend to travel overseas without you a week before a global pandemic. Also, beer is good?
Last movie you watched
Eden Lake, which was honestly so fucking grim.
Best advice you’ve received?
You’re not that important.
Someone you really admire
My gramps, the one and only Ron Chandler, the suavest man out and also the most generous. I am forever trying to be like him.
How do you feel about your hair?
I just cut it all off and got my fringe sorted! Those lockdown locks were… not good. I can’t find my hair straightener atm though and it means my hair is flicking out in weird directions. Overall, I like it, I think.
What happens when you die?
I hope that something happens, but my inner realist says the end is probably just nothingness. Death is the one thing I try not to marinate on, lest I completely freak myself out. I’m quite known for my existential theatrics.
Describe yourself in three words
A terrible dancer.
One person or thing you think is underrated
Older people. People are shown such a lack of respect once they reach a certain age. It’s like you lose part of your youness; like all their contributions and achievements no longer matter. The irony, of course, is that most of us will get older.
You can time travel to the past or the future. Where do you go and why?
It would NEVER be the future for me; space and Jeff Bezos scare me. Could I be a fly on the wall in Scotland sometime in the Middle Ages? It sounds gruesome and cold, but I’m intrigued.
Nature or nurture?
I watch too many crime documentaries for questions like these. Both.
What do you doubt most?
Like most women who answer this column – sadly, me.
Daily ritual you couldn't live without
Each morning, I sit by the water with my boyfriend in complete silence. Like, not a word uttered. (I do not want to engage with anyone before 9am.) We enjoy it.
How are you at 8am (are you a morning person?)
Hate it! See above.
Something you're passionate about
Doing something worthwhile in this world. I get so stressed about meaning and purpose and time; I think it's why I work so hard. I’d really like to not be like this.
