What Is Happening???

An earthquake, a tornado and now a premier's resignation – these past few weeks have been a lot.

This is all too much. If last week’s Victorian earthquake coupled with a tornado just casually tearing through NSW this morning wasn’t enough – oh, and ever rising COVID case numbers in both Sydney and Melbourne – NSW Premier Gladys Berejeklian has just resigned. Relax, you guys! It’s all under control! This is Australia!

Yes, in a surprise development that really didn’t need to happen on a Friday afternoon just as I was about to take my lunch break, NSW's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has announced that they will be investigating Berejeklian for, you know, corruption. More specifically, they’ll be reportedly looking into whether Gladys Berejiklian breached the public trust when she awarded grants to community organisations between 2012 and 2018.

Gladys has just now announced her resignation at a press conference, saying, “I have no option to resign as premier”. She also threw some subtle shade ICAC’s way, saying that she didn’t want to resign during this “challenging time” for NSW, but said that ICAC choosing to investigate her at this time gave her “no choice”. ... Right.

You can watch her full resignation speech just below.
