Guy Sebastian channels Taylor Swift in response to criticism over his Eurovision announcement

‘Haters gonna hate’…

Guy Sebastian has received some heavy backlash following the announcement he’ll be representing Australia in the annual Eurovision contest.

It’s not an easy feat picking one artist to represent the whole country from a pool of thousands of talented Aussies, but it seems the general public don’t agree with the final decision, sending ‘Guy Sebastian’ and ‘Eurovision’ to the top of the trending chart.

Columnist Em Rusciano wrote, “What’s the name of that company who send envelopes of hate glitter and does anyone know @GuySebastian’s addy? Asking for a friend…”

Rapper Allday took aim at Guy’s Australian Idol roots, “I think Guy Sebastian AND Shannon Noll should do a duet performance of "Angels Brought Me Here" at Eurovision #TOUCHDOWN”

Other taunts called for a ”better” options and Triple J ran a story titled ‘9 Eurovision Contenders  Better Than Guy Sebastian.’

Ouch!

But, despite the cruel online taunts, Guy’s excited to perform at Eurovision and isn’t fazed by the hate mail.

Paying homage to a girl who’s dusted off a fair few haters in her day, Guy didn’t hesitate to address the negative Twitter comments.

“To quote the very brilliant Taylor Swift: “Haters gonna hate, hate, hate.” There are way too many positives,” Guy told Daily Mail at the press conference today. ‘It’s a huge event, the plus side is so much more than the negative. Of course there will be people saying whatever but I’ve got to ignore it.”

Later that day, the Australian Idol winner shared a snap of himself superimposed on Conchita Wurst’s body, the winner of Eurovision 2014, with the caption: ‘Yay ;)’

If Guy is successful, Australia will get to host Eurovision 2016.
