The Most Fked Up Moments From Netflix's Fyre Festival Documentary

...

Remember back in 2017 when the absolute nightmare that was (supposed to be) Fyre Festival hit the Internet?

Well, if the real time headlines had your jaw on the floor, Netflix's new documentary Fyre will leave you in utter disbelief.

From blatant lies, to numerous scams, and even offers of oral sex, here are the most COOKED moments from the doco.

1. Billy McFarland Lied About Owning An Island

You might remember, Fyre Festival was originally set to take place on Norman's Cay, an island in the Bahamas "previously owned by Pablo Escobar." Fyre details how festival founder Billy McFarland repeatedly lied about owning the island, and when the island's real owner found out the organisers were linking it to Escobar, they quickly took it back, leaving the festival with no venue just months before guests were due to arrive.

2. Billy McFarland & Ja Rule's Truly Cringeworthy Toast

At one point during the documentary pre-Fyre Festival sh*t storm, Billy and Ja Rule talk about their "favourite toast" which is: "Here's to living like movie stars, partying like rock-stars, and f*cking like pornstars." This already cringeworthy toast is even harder to hear knowing what was about to unfold.

3. Selena Gomez's Ex Was Involved

One of more interesting tid bits from Fyre, is the fact that Samuel Krost who runs in the same circle as Bella and Gigi Hadid and once dated Selena Gomez, was involved in the festival as the person responsible for booking the acts.

4. Billy McFarland Was Scamming People While Out On Bail

While out on bail following his arrest for Fyre Festival, founder Billy was STILL scamming people. In July, Billy plead guilty to new charges that he ran a fraudulent ticket business called NYC VIP Access, during which he took more than $US100K from at least 15 people for non-existent tickets to events like the Met Gala, Coachella, Burning Man and the Super Bowl.

5. A Bahaman Woman Lost $50K Of Her Own Savings To Pay Fyre Workers

Maryann Rolle, who owns the Exuma Point Bar and Grille where she was pushed to capacity feeding hungry (and angry) attendees, revealed she was forced to use $50,000 of her personal savings to pay her staff after Fyre organisers failed to pay her. Gabrielle Bluestone, an EP for the Netflix doco, has shared Maryann's GoFundMe page which has already raised more than $125K.

6. The Festival's Pilot Learned How To Fly Using A Microsoft Flight Simulator

Keith van der Linde, who doubled as Fyre's festival planner and on-site pilot explains in the documentary that he was licensed, but originally learned how to fly through MIcrosoft Flight Simulator.

7. The Amount Influencers Were Paid To Endorse Fyre Festival

Fyre Festival was promoted by a handful of social media influencers and famous models, including Kendall Jenner, who was apparently paid a mind-blowing $250,000 for ONE POST about the festival. Bella Hadid, who was also paid to promote Fyre, eventually apologised to her fans, writing in a since-deleted tweet, "I initially trusted this would be an amazing & memorable experience for all of us, which is why I agreed to do one promotion…not knowing about the disaster that was to come…I feel so sorry and badly because this is something I couldn’t stand by, although of course if I would have known about the outcome, you would have all known too."

8. The Luxury Accomodation Were Actually Disaster Tents

Festivalgoers forked out thousands after they were promised luxury, eco-friendly domes and villas to stay in, but in the end were given half-built disaster relief tents left over from Hurrican Matthew, featuring dirt floors, mattresses soaked from the rain and no air conditioning.

9. One Attendee Peed On Other Tents So He Didn't Have "Neighbours"

A Fyre attendee interviewed for the Netflix doco was explaining the chaos when he arrived on the island, and admitted to "p*ssing" on tents to avoid other attendees. "Our strategy [to avoid having neighbours] was to sort of ransack all the tents around us...I just started poking holes and flipping mattresses, and my buddy p*ssed on a few of the beds." Lovely guys!

10. The Event Producer Was Going To "Take One For The Team"

Hands down one of the most shocking moments from Fyre has to be the fact that Billy asked the festival's producer Andy King to offer oral sex to Bahaman customs in order to avoid paying a $175,000 import fee for the 18-wheeler trucks full of water needed for the event. "Billy called," he says in the documentary. "And said, 'Andy, we need you take one big thing for the team...you're our wonderful gay leader...wil you suck d*ck to fix this water problem?" Andy said was fully prepared to comply with Billy's request, but the customs chief let him off the hook and released the water on the condition he'd get paid back ASAP.

We are shaking our heads so hard right now.
