We Don't Know Why Eminem Performed 'Lose Yourself' At The Oscars, But Damn We're Glad He Did

He had one shot, one opportunity.

It was a strange choice by the Oscars to give Eminem the mic to perform his classic tune, "Lose Yourself" between awards… but it was a glorious one. “Lose Yourself”, you may remember, was the Oscar-winning hit from Eminem’s film 8 Mile, so if you’re wondering what Eminem’s relevance to the Academy is.. that’s it. And that’s more than enough reason for us. Give us Eminem any day, we say, especially Oscars day when we get to see reactions LIKE THIS from Martin Scorsese.

Just beautiful.

Interestingly, Eminem was a no show at the 2003 Oscars when "Lose Yourself" won the award – so this was presumably his chance at a do-over. Besides Scorsese falling asleep, the performance went down incredibly well the rest of the Oscars crowd, who rapped and head-banged accordingly. Memes below.

Thank you to the people who made this happen — this'll go down in Oscars history.
