The controversy surrounding Elon Musk and Grimes' newborn son's name has been exhausting and quite frankly the best thing to happen in a while.

Nothing get's the internet razzed up like a bizarro celebrity baby name and X Æ A-12 did not disappoint. The memes came in thick and fast. Of course the questions on everyone's lips were - what does it mean and how the actual f*ck do you pronounce it?

Well we've now got answers and we're more confused than ever. Firstly the 32-year-old offered up a detailed explanation behind her son's unique name only for her partner, Tesla boss Elon Musk, to correct her on social media. So already not off to a great start.

Now the new parents have told us how to pronounce X Æ A-12 and they're on different pages there too.

Elon, 48, jumped on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast and confirmed that you pronounce the name, "X Ash Archangel Twelve."

"First of all, my partner's the one that actually mostly came up with the name," he said. "It's just 'X,' the letter 'X,' and the 'Æ' is pronounced 'ash' and then 'A-12' is my contribution. Archangel 12, the precursor to the SR-71, coolest plane ever."

Ok great, so we'll just call him "X Ash" then? Oh, well no. According to Grimes, who responded to a fan on Instagram, it's pronounced "X A.I".

Welp. We just don't know where to go from here. At least now we can agree that the baby will be referred to as X. 

But who knows, before the week is out they'll probably just troll us and start calling him, Darren.
