Normani Does It All With Her 2021 VMAs Performance Of "Wild Side"

With hard dance moves and high vocals, Normani cemented her status as a VMA icon with her performance of ‘Wild Side" at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards

Normani made her debut at the MTV Video Music Awards almost a decade ago when she performed with Fifth Harmony. Then, in 2019 she made her solo debut with her breakout hit “Motivation”. Now, the multi-talented, multi-hyphenate superstar-in-the-making returned to the stage once again with a performance of her new single “Wild Side” – sadly sans Cardi B – and it’s one everyone will be talking about.

Donned in all silver and with her signature troupe of back-up dancers, Normani effortlessly recreated the song’s iconic video – complete with sliding along the floor and making it look easy. She then stood up, executed the complicated and extreme choreography – complete with that knee bounce – giving us all the life we needed and more.

But, let’s not forget that Normani has an incredible voice. The song’s final chorus gave her space to show-off her deceptively powerhouse vocals, including a whistle note that sent the crowd wild. However, she was hardly finished. Taking a step back, the lights dimmed and Teyana Taylor was wheeled out strapped to a makeshift crucifix.

Normani then began to straddle her, continuing to perform her choreography and showcase an insane amount of upper body, lower body and core strength – all while giving an ode to a staple of Janet Jackson’s live performances. This, my friends, is an icon!
