The Must-Watch Performances At This Year's MTV EMAs

Who needs travel when you can watch the EMAs? These performances from Little Mix, Zara Larsson, Sam Smith & more will fly you to Europe and back.

Another epic MTV Europe Music Awards done and dusted.

Shot in various locations around Europe, the two-hour ceremony, which aired on Monday, November 9 at 7am AEDT, saw Little Mix host, as artists from across the globe including Lady Gaga, BTS, Cardi B and more were honoured and celebrated.

And in between all that, some of the biggest names in music took to the stage to perform their latest tracks. David Guetta and Raye performed "Let's Love" for the very first time live; Alicia Keys took us for a ride in LA; and Yungblud and Maluma steamed up London (separately, for obvious reasons).

Every performance was spectacular in its own right, though there are a few essentials that I recommend everyone watch right this second. Below are my picks from the star-studded show.

Sam Smith – "Diamonds"

A darkened auditorium and a spotlight set the scene for Sam Smith's performance of the second single on their third album, Diamonds. Wearing a denim jacket, they sang and danced their way through the track, as lightning flickered against a red backdrop. Watch 'til the end for an important message from Sam Smith:

Jack Harlow – "What's Poppin"

American rapper Jack Harlow treated us to an edgy rendition of his hit single, "What's Poppin". Joined by a bunch of bikini-clad backup dancers, Jack 'popped' his way through the catchy tune as black, white and red graphics flashed on a screen behind him. Bop along here:

Alicia Keys – "Love Looks Better"

Trust Alicia Keys to make us want to buy a bedazzled full face mask immediately. The singer-songwriter wore the accessory, along with a matching crop top, as she belted her way through new tune "Love Looks Better", taking it off mid-way through to reveal her signature glowing skin. Catch it here:

Little Mix – "Sweet Melody"

Little Mix had quite the night at the 2020 MTV EMAs. Not only did the British pop group host the show, but they also performed their latest single, "Sweet Melody" and nabbed themselves two new awards, Best Pop and Best UK & Ireland Act. Wearing matching white ensembles (think Destiny's Child circa mid-90s), the group belted and shimmied their way through an incredible set with stunning visuals. Feast your eyes:

YUNGBLUD – "Cotton Candy" / "Strawberry Lipstick"

Yungblud was back in the same women's tennis outfit he wore in his music video for "Cotton Candy" for his MTV EMA performance of the hit song. The singer-songwriter performed his track soaring through the air, miming cupid-like shooting arrows, before touching down on the stage and tearing off his skirt to reveal Union Jack shorts underneath. He capped off his set with "Strawberry Lipstick". Watch Yungblud do his thing here:

Zara Larsson – "WOW"

"WOW" is right. Zara Larsson's close at the MTV EMAs was truly something. Dressed in leather gloves, a black crop top and black pants, the Swedish singer slithered her way across the stage and made our jaw "drop-drop" as she wrapped up the epic night. Peep it here:
