Did you think pandemic fashion was kind of done at this point? I mean, surely Lady Gaga's incredible face mask game at this year's VMAs took the face mask game as far as it could go, right? Right?!? Well, Alicia Keys is here and she wants you to hold her beer.
Yep, the iconic R&B artist (and three-time EMA winner) made me question everything when she graced the EMAs stage to perform the single "Love Looks Better". Seated at her signature grand piano, the singer wore a full, tight-fitting face mask adorned with diamonds that basically scared the shit out of me. I don't know if she looked like a posh superhero or a bedazzled Netflix villain but I'll be honest: I was into it.
The "So Done" singer paired the mask with a matching embellished crop top and oversized coat, and look… I'm just really ashamed of my Etsy face mask, ok? Don't look at me.
If that wasn't enough, Alicia Keys kept the face mask on until halfway through her performance when she revealed her face to a round of whooping from the EMAs audience. We knew it was you Alicia! Heh. None of us were scared.
The whole performance was like a game of Peekaboo!, but for grown-ups. And with fashion. Thank you for the emotional journey, Alicia. Now excuse me while I have a lie-down.
