YOUR FAVORITE MTV SHOWS ARE ON PARAMOUNT+

This Month's Netflix Menu Is A Feast For The Senses

Say hello to Sandra Oh's new show, the final instalment of 'The Kissing Booth' and all three 'Matrix' movies.

I will not say her name. You know who I’m talking about. A certain – let’s say – contagion, who keeps overstaying their welcome, keeps coming up with new ‘variants’ and won’t leave this planet in peace.

You-know-who is responsible for the latest wave of lockdown orders ripping through Australia. The good news, though, is that TV is always there. Waiting for you in the wings, and ready to gift you with guilt-free entertainment while the latest strain makes its way to the door.

Whether you’re locked down or not, this month streaming services are coming up with the goods; and given Netflix’s August 2021 schedule, we could not help but share what we’re most looking forward to. Not interested? Scroll down to see the full list.

1. “The Chair” (August 20)

You sometimes don’t know how much you’ve missed someone until you see them again, which is exactly how I felt upon seeing Sandra Oh in the trailer for The Chair. There’s been a big Sandra-Oh-shaped hole in my heart since the most recent season of Killing Eve finished up last year, so I couldn’t be more ready for her turn as Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, the new Chair of English at the prestigious Pembroke University.

As per Netflix’s official synopsis: "Ji-Yoon is faced with a unique set of challenges as the first woman to chair the department, and as one of the few staff members of color at the university. The older staff fear change, while new blood, like professor Yasmin McKay (Nana Mensah), agitate for it.” It also stars Jay Duplass, so that’s fun. Watch the trailer below.

2. The Kissing Booth 3 (August 11)

Good things come to those who wait, which is why fans of the The Kissing Booth trilogy will be gifted with the long-awaited final instalment in just one week. As you probably know, we most recently left Elle Evans (Joey King) at a fork in the road: should she head to Harvard to be with her very tall boyfriend Noah (Jacob Elordi)? Or to Berkeley to be with her best friend, Lee (Joel Courtney)?

3. Baking Squad (August 11)

What is it about baking shows and lockdown? It's a combination that just works. While the trailer brings to mind Nicole Byer’s Nailed It!, Baking Squad appears to be much more niche and a bit more competitive; focusing on the art of making desserts for big events. “Our individually brilliant bakers will battle it out to see whose dessert will be chosen for someone’s extra special big day," says the synopsis. Say no more, Netflix. Say no more.

That’s enough musing; here’s the full list of everything dropping on Netflix Australia this month.
