10 Looks I've Deemed Especially Noteworthy From This Year’s Met Gala
Australia's major cities may be in lockdown, but celebrities – as always – are thriving. It’s only bloody Tuesday but we’re already on to our second red carpet of the week; after being dazzled by the red carpet talent on display yesterday by the likes of Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, and perhaps most memorably Doja Cat at the 2021 VMAs.
But it’s a new day, and the celebrities have now channelled all of that sartorial energy into a new project – the annual Met Gala, aka “fashion’s big night out”, which also happens to be a fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. Bougie.
This year’s theme is “In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion”. And look: it's not the most imaginative theme they could've chosen. But in this economy, we'll take it. Without further ado, here are the most noteworthy looks at the 2021 Met Gala.
Billie Eilish
We would be REMISS not to mention one of the most dramatic looks of the evening, with Billie Eilish and her newly blonde-locks channelling the old Hollywood glamor of Marilyn Monroe.
Lupita Nyong'o
Does Ms Nygong’o ever miss? I will be thinking about this hair for the next 3-5 days.
Rosé
Our darling Rosé from girl group BLACKPINK makes her Met Gala debut in a classic LBD and statement white bow.
Natalia Byrant
Quick question: is she dressed as a bauble? I love that. I love me some whimsy.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
What a legend.
Timothée Chalamet
When it comes to men's fashion, there's no one more reliable.
A$AP Rocky
Technically this is a coat, but oh my god, what a coat. A$AP looks warm, cosy and colourful. Could this be post-pandemic fashion?
Naomi Osaka
She's got a point, she's an icon, she's a legend and she is the moment.
Iman
Oh my god? We get it Iman, OK? We get it.
Kim Kardashian
I'm not sure how I feel about this.
