Miley Cyrus Says She Wrote Breakup Ballad ‘Slide Away’ Well Before Her Final Split With Liam Hemsworth
Miley Cyrus has dropped the hectic bomb that she wrote song “Slide Away” (which saw her crooning about her breakup last year) before she'd actually even split with Liam Hemsworth in 2019.
“I wrote ‘Slide Away’ before my breakup,” she said in an interview on Apple Music’s Essential Radio. “I wrote ‘Slide Away’ in February of the year before. And I just keep speaking these things into existence.” Wild. This means Miley wrote the breakup song in February 2018: just two months after Liam and Miley actually got married.
So, basically, two months into their new life together, she was singing “it’s time to let it go” and “baby, we were found, but now we’re lost”, which is probably a little bit of a slap in the face for then newly married Liam Hemsworth. Could Cyrus' newfound brutal honestly have something to do with the fact a mate of Liam’s recently told the media the actor had a “low opinion” of her? We wouldn't rule it out.
Also in the interview, Miley claimed she also manifested hers and Liam’s Malibu beach house burning down in the wildfires that affected the area. “Once upon a time it was made for us / Woke up one day, it had turned to dust,” she’d rasped on the track.
“I burnt my house down with my words,” she said. “I was talking yesterday about where you apply your attention to determine how you feel. And I think that's what I mean by definitely joking about me burning my house down with my words. But I do believe where we put our attention determines our faith.”
Liam still seems to be a hot topic for Miley, with fans suspecting her latest track “Midnight Sky”, released last week – the same day her breakup with Cody Simpson was announced – was also about him, as well as ex Kaitlynn Carter. Liam’s bit (or so fans think): “Lotta years went by with my hands tied up in your ropes / Forever and ever, no more.”
Liam still remains pretty mute on the subject; he's happily doing his own thing with new girlfriend Gabriella Brooks in Byron Bay, Australia. We'll next see Miley at the upcoming VMAs – she's set to perform her new single, "Midnight Sky", then!
