BTS Are Back With A Smooth "Butter" Remix Featuring Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion took her record label to court in order to release the song.

“Butter” by BTS is already a smash hit, spending nine weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 since its release in May. Now it might just get its 10th number one, with the release of a remix that’s even hotter, sweeter, and cooler than the ones that came before, thanks to a feature from Megan Thee Stallion.

The remix, which sadly doesn’t come with a music video but does have a super cute “visualiser”, incorporates an iconic verse from Megan Thee Stallion with lines like “I remember writing flows in my room in college / Now I need global entry to the shows I’m rocking / Smooth like cocoa butter… every beat I get on get turned into Hubba Bubba.” Megan also ad-libs throughout the song, and layers her own rap with BTS members Suga and RM at the end – a moment that particularly delighted a lot of fans in an instant.

The song would have been welcome in any circumstances, but it’s being greeted with extra enthusiasm from fans since they learned earlier in the week that it was at risk of never being released. Megan filed court documents on Tuesday in the US claiming her record label 1501 Certified Entertainment and its CEO Carl Crawford were blocking the release of the song.

According to the documents, the A&R for Big Hit, BTS’s label, approached Megan about featuring on a remix of “Butter” in June, but after she recorded her version of the track, it was quickly blocked by her record label, as they allegedly claimed it wasn’t “good for her career”. In requesting emergency relief to allow the song to be released today as planned, Megan emphasised that not releasing it would cause “irreparable damage” to her career. Later that day, a judge ruled that Megan was clear to release the song, much to the relief of both her fans and those of BTS.

Since she got the go ahead, Megan has been hyping the track, saying in a statement “I love BTS so I’m super excited to be on the ‘Butter’ remix. I can’t wait for all the Hotties and ARMY to hear it.” She’s also been active on social media talking about the song and retweeting a bunch of cute fan art.

BTS has a history of collaborating with incredible female artists, including Halsey, Nicki Minaj, Charli XCX, and Zara Larsson.

It’s only early days, but this latest collab with Megan Thee Stallion might just be their biggest yet, with the visualiser for the song on YouTube already racking up over 3.5 million views within an hour of its release, and fans of both artists joyously embracing the track.

“Butter” is already being dubbed the “song of the summer” in the US, and if it keeps, ahem, sticking around like this, it might just make it to the heat of the Aussie summer too.
