All Is Not Well In Jeffree Star & Shane Dawson’s Friendship, Close Friends Say
While the rest of the world celebrates a historic inauguration and waves a big ol’ goodbye to Trump et al, beauty YouTube is falling to pieces. It’s the gift that just keeps giving.
For those who aren’t up to speed, firstly: good for you! Secondly, here’s a brief overview of the saga so far.
Internet chaos queen Trisha Paytas recently ignited drama after calling out Star’s hairdresser, ‘HairByJay’, for expensive extensions (yes, really), which then inevitably led to gross insults, accusations and the resurgence of old feuds. Playing out over a series of videos and exchanges across YouTube and Twitter, the drama centred around Paytas, Star and HairByJay.
Enter: Paytas’s best friend Shane Dawson. Well actually, he doesn’t enter at all, which is the problem. Paytas critiques Dawson for not standing up for her against Star despite their long, problematic alliance. Battle lines have been drawn and Dawson is firmly in Star’s camp. Friendship over.
Now for the new developments: Star’s former pal Oscar Wylde tweeted his support for Paytas, saying he was loving watching her evolve into “such a self aware, kind, just all around better person.”
He followed this up with a scathing tweet about Star and Dawon’s supposed friendship, writing that Star discussed cutting ties with Dawson:
Wylde tweeted that he had a video coming where he’d be sharing his two cents on the whole situation with Paytas, Star and Dawson. But first he was going to work out. Great.
After sitting on my hands for a few hours, the video finally came. In Wylde’s video, he accuses Star of being very much involved in the bullying of Paytas back on that infamous Vegas trip, saying it was “crazy” he acted as though he wasn’t. (Note: these are all unverified accusations at this point.)
Wylde also speaks about his friendship with Star, saying there were a lot of “manipulative behaviours'' that stuck out to him. He states that when his family disowned him for being bisexual, Star was barely there for him, not even sending a single text. This came after Wylde supported Star during his many serious YouTube scandals.
He accused Star of not being a good friend to him, Paytas or Dawson, instead playing “social media games to gain attention through very weird avenues”. No shit.
Commenting on Dawson’s loyalty to Star, he said he was “surprised” that Dawson had “lasted this long”. “I don’t know if it’s for financial gain or not, but at the end of the day, Shane Dawson, I looked up to you a lot… I don’t know what you’re doing right now. You’re supporting the wrong people.” (Wylde should probably work on his character assessment.)
He also claims Star and his friends were nasty toward fellow beauty YouTuber Nikita Dragun, saying he’d heard them go “back and forth” about how she’d allegedly copied his merch.
