James Charles Apologises To Lauren Conrad After Slating Her For Starting A Makeup Brand

Bit rude.

Another day, another James Charles spat. James Charles has apologised to Lauren Conrad for – our words here – being unbelievably rude to her, saying his comments were meant to be funny.

In case you missed it, last week James took to Instagram Stories to share his thoughts on a PR box of makeup he’d been sent that included a liquid highlighter tube that was empty and an eyeliner pen that was dry. While James didn’t mention Lauren by name, fans recognised the packaging from her vegan beauty line ‘Lauren Conrad Beauty’, launched earlier this month, and figured out that James was talking about Lauren.

“I just opened a PR package from a new makeup brand from somebody was who has no business having a makeup brand,” he said. Holding the empty liquid highlighter, he said: “I received this piece of plastic in a PR box.” Then, holding up the eyeliner, he said: “This is the eyeliner I got – notice the tip is white. That’s because there’s no ink in the actual eyeliner pen.”

The final blow came when he started gasping: “Stop making makeup brands. Stop! Stop!” Ouch.

Lauren, however, handled it like a pro, taking to her own Instagram Stories to explain the mistake.

“For those asking about the empty components sent to James… let me tell you a funny story,” she said. “The woman who put together the gifts (it was me) decided to fill a makeup bag full of empty samples to make sure everything would fit inside. When beauty products arrived and it was time to fill all the makeup bags she (again, me) accidentally included the bag full of empties with the others and it was sent out. She will be let go immediately.”

Realising his rudeness, James apologised, saying: “Wanted to write an apology to @LaurenConrad for my stories earlier,” he said. “I’ve been on the verge of tears all day long from a ton of things going wrong & opening her PR package was the icing on the cake of weird things happening today. My stories talking about the products were supposed to be funny but they just came across as nasty because I was so upset, not with her, but with other things that happened today. Lauren and I spoke privately about the misunderstanding & are both good.”

If you’re feeling a sense of déjà vu here, it’s because a similar incident went down at the start of this month when James shaded Alicia Keys and her new makeup collection with e.l.f. Beauty. “People who do not wear makeup should not be coming out with makeup brands but that’s just my opinion,” he said. Naturally, fans weren't impressed with James' dig, calling him out for 'gatekeeping' the industry, and thinking of his own profits before what's best for his fans and makeup consumers. James went on to apologise to Alicia, saying he didn't realise the brand actually featured skincare products.

See you here next week for his next shading.
