Miley Drops A Heartbreaking Tribute To 'Malibu' On Its Fourth Anniversary
If you're not following Miley Cyrus on every social media platform, are you even online? Breaking with the traditionally polished and over-curated profiles of her A-list peers, Miley's online presence is pure, unbridled chaos – and we're obsessed. (Special shout-out to Miley's pandemic PSA declaring "Hannah Montana Is Here To Remind You Of COVID-19 Which Means No Sex.")
A;l of that chaotic posting means that whenever we get a sincere post, it hits us right in the feels. Case in point: this week, she's taken to Insta to post a tribute to "Malibu", the infamous track that paid tribute to her lover at the time, Liam Hemsworth. You may recall that after being on-and-off for several years, the two went through a rather public divorce in late 2019, famously causing a decline in marriage rates worldwide. (Probably.)
But this week we were gifted a touching tribute to the song that celebrated their love.
"Today is the 4 year anniversary of Malibu. A song about a place and person that at the time I loved very much. That love was reciprocated beyond what I could describe here with freedom & escapism," she wrote on Instagram.
"I lost that home along with many others in 2018. Here is a video of me writing it in my home studio."
The caption refers to her lost love with Hemsworth, as well as the devastating wildfires that claimed their Californian home in 2018.
The video captures Miley singing what sound like backing vocals in an extremely angelic voice. A talent. An icon. A queen.
This is the second year in a row that Miley's posted a tribute to the song, so can we petition to make this a public holiday, please?
